Centennial Building/Courthouse Theatre - Whitby
Investigation Date: March 14th 2005
On March 14th, 2005 the Paranormal Seekers traveled to Whitby to visit the Whitby Centennial Building, which is more commonly known as The Whitby Courthouse Theatre.
When we arrived, Mr. & Mrs. Lavoie greeted us, along with the custodian Paul, and curator, Mr. D’Andrea. The first place we saw was the theatre itself. This was where the Courthouse was originally when it was first built.
HISTORY
Many trials were held here, but the one known best is the story of Jack (last name unknown). Jack was either the Father or Uncle (no one knows for sure) of a young man who was being tried for rape. Jack was pacing outside waiting for the verdict of his son/nephew to be read. The waiting was driving him nuts and he was having a hard time dealing with the pressure. Unaware to him, the judge was ready to reveal the verdict when Jack ran through the courtroom doors onto the balcony. At this very same moment, he heard the judge give the fate of his boy – “Guilty” – and tripped and fell over the balcony to his death. To this day, it is reported that he still haunts the courtroom.
OUR EXPERIENCE
When we entered the stage area, Brenda immediately felt the presence of an unhappy spirit. We walked around the Theatre area to gather information, and continued upstairs.
On the second floor, Mike began to video tape the Theatre through the window. While he was doing this, we noticed something moving on his camera screen. Upon further examination, we found it to be…the Ghost!
Brenda and Rachel decided to go back down to the Theatre to see if they could find anything further. Brenda began to channel and came up with little information about Jack. He was being very uncooperative and kept asking why people were suddenly caring. He couldn’t understand why this had changed. (Click on the photo below to view a larger version – in this photo during Brendas channeling, a faint set of hands could be seen overlapping her hands and a large orb to the left of her)
We decided to leave that area, and meet the rest of the group upstairs. We sat on the balcony and took in our surroundings. Brenda tried to contact Jack again, but like before, he wanted to know why everyone was interested in him now and hadn’t taken the time before then. After a while, he showed Brenda what his vehicle looked like, and even how he landed when he fell from the balcony. Jack also said that he did not want to cross over because he had a “debt to pay” and that we didn’t understand. After learning this, Brenda tried several times reassure him that it was okay to cross over and that she would even help guide him, but then Jack became very inconsistent with his answers, and didn’t want to talk anymore. It was time to leave Jack alone.
We continued on to the Regal Room, and then headed to the basement. We were able to see the old tunnels that run throughout the town of Whitby. Brenda stated that she felt less pressure down here compared to upstairs. Our tour was complete when we surfaced from the basement. But, we will be returning to the Centennial Building shortly to do another investigation, so keep checking back!!
