Mad Bohemian tattoo and Art Co. - Bowmanville, On
April 23, 2016
In downtown Bowmanvile sits a quaint, little yellow building. With a history as old as the town itself, this historic building is now home to Mad Bohemian Tattoo and Art Co. The staff welcomed us in and immediately started telling us about the activity they had been experiencing. It seemed that most, if not all, had had some type of experiences - from hearing disembodied voices, unexplained movement and seeing shadow type figures. Mark, Mad Bohemian’s owner, described a few experiences to Rachel that seemed to be a little unnerving. One experience had him seeing a small, child-like shadow run from one side of the shop to the other. A second experience, Mark was witness to a tall shadow that drifted around the room. When it got to the area where the coffee machine was, it appeared to have knocked all the coffee cup sleeves on to the floor. The basement was also a place no one seemed to enjoy.
We could not wait to get this investigation underway. We decided to do a few EVP and PSB7 ghost box sessions before setting up any cameras. We wanted to get a feel for the place and see if any one, or thing, wanted to talk before we began filming. Rachel and Colin headed to the back office. Jay was already in the room gathering his thoughts. Rachel began to describe to Jay and Colin the experiences that had been revealed to her. As she described what had happened, the Ovilus spoke – “Past”. As they stood in the dark, Jay began to describe what he was feeling. “There is a male and a female,” he said. It was then that Colin noticed that the K2 Meter was lighting up. “The K2 is going nuts!” exclaimed Colin. “The male is definitely the strong and dominant one here,” Jay said. “Now I feel ill. Feeling it in my stomach,” he continued. “You just need to go by the door to set off the lights, please and thank you,” Colin asked. “Now my head is feeling wonky, and I see someone stand to the left of Rachel,” stated Jay. It was then that Rachel thought it might be a good idea to try a ghost box session. All was quiet, as Rachel turned the P-SB7 and began to ask questions. “Is there some one in the room with us right now? If so, can you tell us your name?” A male voice and female voice was heard, but we could not make out what each was saying. “Can the male tell us his name?” Rachel asked. No response. “Can the female tell us her name?” Rachel asked. Again, no response. A few more questions were asked, but no audible response was heard. We decided to try a new approach and use the Question and Answer program on the Ovilus. Before we had even started, Jay began describing how he felt like someone was choking him. Shortly after, the Ovilus gave 3 words – “Information”, “Traffic” and “Derrick”. “Are you in here Derrick?” Colin asked. The Ovilus spoke – “Express”, “Oar”, “Card”. It was then that Paula and two other staff came and joined us. Colin continued to ask questions. “Derrick, is that your name?” The Ovilus spoke – “Murphy”, “Boot”, “Come”. “Maybe his name is Derrick Murphy,” Rachel questioned. “Are you inviting us somewhere?” asked Colin. The Ovilus spoke – “Better”, “Grand”, “Glove”. Jay was beginning to complain about feeling pressure on his neck again. “What are you doing to Jay?” Rachel asked. The Ovilus spoke – “Beach”, “Car”, “Au”. “I keep thinking that there has been a hanging,” Jay blurted out as he continued to feel the pressure. Colin continued to ask questions. “Come say ‘Hi’ to us,” he stated. The Ovilus spoke – “Jerk”, “Last”, “Quest”. Before Colin could get his next question out the Ovilus spoke again – “Down”, “Town”, “Alley”. “What happened in the alley?” questioned Colin. The Ovilus spoke – “Yield”, “Foreign”, “Shepherd”. We sat in silence for the next minute before Colin asked his next question. “Can you move something for us?” he asked. The Ovilus spoke – “Flat”, “Free”, “Mammy”. “I want you to move something or set of one of our devices,” stated Colin. The Ovilus spoke again – “Turn”, “Shape”, “Adjust”. Everyone in the room chuckled loudly. At least whomever was with us had a sense of humor. Colin didn’t seemed to thrilled. “You turn over, shape and adjust,” he exclaimed. The Ovilus spoke again – “Restore”, “Faster”, “Come”. It was another good laugh. “Are you a small child,” Colin went on to ask. Three more words from the Ovilus – “Ship”, “Next”, “Common”. Rachel then took over asking questions. “Do you like being here?” she asked. “Cotton”, “Gun”, “Stomach” were the words the Ovilus spoke. It was then that Rachel seemed to feel as if these words had correlation. “A lot of these words coming up on the Ovilus seem to be connected to old black culture,” she stated. The two staff members agreed. It was then that it was noted that rumor around town is that underneath these buildings was a crematorium. “That explains the feelings in the basement,” Jay stated. Wanting to know if she was on the right lead, Rachel continued to ask questions. “Am I on the right track here?” she asked. The Ovilus spoke – “Saturn”, “Atom”, “Projection”. “Did you work here?” “Bet”, “Electric”, “Company”. “Were you and electrician?” “Poor”, “Necessary”, “Mostly”. “These responses make sense if you think about it,” stated Rachel. “Can you touch one of the girls beside me,” asked Colin. “Limp”, “Cup”, “White” came out of the Ovilus. “Do you like being here?” asked Rachel. “Bill”, “Bible”, “They” came out of the Ovilus. A few seconds later Jay catches a much darker shadow in the room beside Colin. “It’s almost the size of you, Colin,” Jay stated. It was noted after, that this was at the approximate time that one of the staff in the room with us felt like she had been touched on the back.

We decided to do a quick P-SB7 ghost box session to see if this entity wanted to communicate. “Can you tell us your name now?” asked Rachel. A male voice came through and it sounded like “Bill”. “Is your name Bill? Can you confirm?” Paula asked. All was quiet. “If your name is Bill, can you say ‘yes’,” Rachel asked. Another male voice comes through, and this time it is a clear ‘NO’. “Can you tell us why you’re here?” Rachel questioned. A clear, male voice is heard again – ‘NO’. More questions were asked, but the ghost box fell quiet. “Are you the one they see all the time? Are you trying to scare people?” This time, a female voice is heard – ‘Watch me’. “Do you think it’s funny to do that?” Rachel asked. Again, a female voice is heard – ‘Yeah’. “What are you going to do?” questioned Paula. Once again a female voice is heard – ‘Things turn”. “What turns? What do you turn?” Rachel asked. No response. Again, the ghost box fell silent. At one point, a small child is heard through the box, in what can only be described as a creepy laugh or chuckle. “Is there anything you want to tell us before I turn this thing off?” Rachel asked, giving whomever was in the room with them one last chance. A male voice is heard – ‘Go Outside’. It was then that Jay began to feel really cold, as if something was trying to get us to leave the room. As we exited the back office area, Jay once again began to describe what he was feeling. “See, at first I thought it was a hanging because of the pressure,” he said. “But now it feels more like someone was strangled, as if they were ambushed from behind. Perhaps in the alley way.” Sean also emerged from the basement at the same time. He appeared to be quite shaken up and unnerved, so we decided it would be a good time to take a breather. After we had finished our mini break, it was time to set up the DVR cameras. Once the cameras where set up and in position, the second part of our investigation commenced.
“If you’re in here with us, we really would like you to show yourself,” stated Colin. The Ovilus spoke - ‘Africa’. The team walked around the main floor, and eventually ended up in different rooms. Rachel followed Sean into the back room, where he said he felt like he wasn’t alone. Shortly after entering the room, Rachel caught a strange anomaly on her camera, that she questioned (Check out the YouTube video!). Staff made their way towards the back room and noticed that the cupboards were opened. They questioned this as they were pretty sure that most, if not all the cupboards had been closed earlier. Paula had also joined us in the room with her infrared camera. As she made her way around the room, she noticed that an inside wall was showing up at black. Black is a colour used on the infrared spectrum to indicate extremely cold temperatures. “Inside walls shouldn’t be black,” stated Paula. The Ovilus then spit out a word – ‘Zoo’. It was true. Everyone had come into the room to check out the strange anomaly that Rachel had filmed and the weird image on Paula’s infra-red camera. Sean was then drawn back to the basement. The rest of team remained on the main floor, while Jay monitored the DVR cameras. Two staff members also decided to get in on the investigation and headed to the back office area, where they held their own vigil in the dark.
Rachel and Paula remained on the main floor and continued to discuss the colour of the wall on the infra-red camera (upon listening to her audio, Rachel has noted what sounds like a man sighing, as Paula and herself talk). The Ovilus spoke – ‘Mandy’. Of course, Rachel and Paula break out into a Barry Manilow song. Colin comes back into the room, and sits in the back. “Are you feeling anything, Colin?” asked Rachel. Colin was quick to respond. “No,” he said. Paula then moved to the back room where she noticed the colour of the wall on the infra-red was still black. She couldn’t figure out why and it was the strangest thing that she had seen that evening.
**Upon further investigation, and talking to an infra-red camera specialist, it was concluded that the dark part on the wall had a very natural explanation – water damage (or leak) from the apartment located above the store.**

We returned to the main room and decided that it would be a good time to do a P-SB7 ghost box session. Rachel set up the device, turned it on, and was ready to ask her first question when she was interrupted. A strong, female voice was heard – “Hello!” “Did it sound like a woman said ‘Hello’?” Rachel asked. “Hello? Hello?” Colin called out. “Can you tell us what your name is?” Rachel asked. ‘Stewart’, a male voice says (this was caught on audio and only heard afterwards). Not realizing that an answer was given, Rachel asked the same question again. This time, a male voice was heard – ‘Mike’. “Is there a Mike with us?” Colin asked. But no response. “Do you have anything you want to say to us?” asked Rachel. Again, no response. “Can you tell me who’s sitting on the couch across from me?” questioned Rachel. This time a female voice is heard – “A Guy”. This was true. Colin was sitting directly across from Rachel on the couch. They continued on with the P-SB7 ghost box session, but no more responses came through. As the team finished up the session, Sean returned from the basement. “When I was down there, I heard a laugh right beside my ear,” he said. Colin then started debating on whether he wanted to visit the basement or not. The Ovilus spoke – ‘Program’. “I was feeling uneasy,” Sean said. “It felt like someone was with me the entire time,” he continued. Sean thought it was a good idea to take a few minutes to gather his thoughts before continuing. The Ovilus spoke – ‘Time’.
After a few minutes, Sean took Colin down the stairs, into the basement. While down there, they both believe they hear something. They both begin to ask that whatever, or whomever, to do it again. Or perhaps even through a stone at one of them. However, nothing happens. Colin begins to snap photos of the basement and of Sean. He notices at one point that Sean doesn’t look right. Upon further examination of his photo, he sees that Sean has a case of red eyes (now for those of you who don’t know, Colin has a professional grade camera designed to prevent red eye). “Sean, you OK?” Colin asks. “Yeah,” Sean replied. “Why you picking on Sean? Come pick on the big boy,” stated Colin. A few more minutes goes by and Colin returns to the main floor. “I don’t feel dizzy or sick, but when we were talking it felt like someone was in between us, “ Colin said as he described the feelings that he had while in the basement. Sean ascended shortly after. Colin began to go through is photos and showed Sean (and everyone) the one he captured red eye in. “When you opened the door, that when I felt it,” Colin said. This was in reference to a storage room door downstairs that Sean had opened to take a peek inside. It was right after this, that Colin captured the photo of Sean with red eyes. After debating the photo, a staff member went downstairs with Sean and Colin to try and recreate the effect. However, this didn’t seem to work as the red eye never appeared in her photos.
Meanwhile, on the main floor, Rachel was walking through the building. Upon entering the back room the Ovilus spoke – ‘Affair’. Jay was in the back room with a staff member discussing earlier events, including Colin’s red eye photo of Sean. The Ovilus was quick to say another word – ‘Moment’. “I felt a walk in earlier, right before I saw the shadow in the back office,” Jay said. “Right now, I feel as if someone is squeezing the back of my neck and shoulders,” he went on to say. “I am feeling a lot of wonky stuff,” Jay then stated. After discussing a few more things, Jay was determined to visit the basement. “Just be careful,” Rachel warned him. “Ya, I don’t want a walk in,” Jay replied. We took a quick, ten minute break so Jay could meditate and set a boundary for himself before visiting the basement. It seemed that Jay was too eager to visit the basement and managed to sneak down there without anyone seeing him. He spent the next few minutes, in the basement in complete darkness, taking in his surroundings

Colin and Sean decided to head back downstairs as that is where they were getting all of their experiences. However, neither one had known (or seen) Jay make his way down there. Needless to say, Jay saw this an opportunity and almost gave both, Sean and Colin, a heart attack. Upstairs, was filled with laughter for a few minutes. The team was now in the main room and decided to try the Question and Answer mode again. Before Rachel could switch the function, the Ovilus spoke – ‘Send’. “Send more people downstairs?” Rachel asked. She waited a few moments for a response, but nothing was captured or heard. She then began the Q&A session. “Can you tell us who you are?” she asked. ‘Shoot’, ‘Verb’. ‘Lose’ where the answers the Ovilus gave. “Could you be more specific?” she asked. ‘Sold’, ‘Herd’, ‘Loose’ replied the Ovilus. “Were you a servant of some sort?” Rachel asked. ‘Suffix’, ‘Teacher’, ‘Much’ replied the Ovilus. “Were you more of a teacher?” questioned Rachel. ‘Now’, ‘Engine’, ‘Century’ replied the Ovilus. “Did you teach engineering at the turn of the century?” asked Rachel. ‘Talking’, ‘Nothing’, ‘Flower’ replied the Ovilus. “Can you tell me what this place is?” asked Rachel. ‘Waste’, ‘Ready’, ‘Dime’ replied the Ovilus. “What do you like about this place?” she questioned. ‘Sultry’, ‘Store’, ‘City’ replied the Ovilus. Jay then yelled up from the basement. “Is there someone in the back room?” he asks. “No, no one is back there,” replied Rachel. “I hear rolling in the back room. Like someone is rolling around in the chair,” yelled Jay. “Are you making noise that they can only hear downstairs?” Rachel asked. ‘Hi’, ‘Did’, ‘Quill’ replied the Ovilus. “Are you going to do something for us up here?” questioned Rachel. ‘Clap’, ‘Burn’, ‘Graveyard’ replied the Ovilus. “Can you touch one of us, move something or bang?” Rachel asked. ‘Last’, ‘Which’, ‘Sit’ replied the Ovilus. Colin then returned to the main floor and joined the rest of the team and staff. “Who just come up from the basement?” Rachel asked. ‘Orange’, ‘Jerk’, ‘Hernia’. Again, it appears whomever was with us seemed to have a sense of humor. Colin was not thrilled that he was being called a jerk. We continued to ask questions, but something caught everyone’s attention. The sound of a plastic chair being dragged across the floor came from the room opposite to where we were all sitting. “Is that you we are hearing?” asked Rachel. ‘Lost’, ‘Earthen’, ‘Attic’ replied the Ovilus. Colin and a couple staff members went to investigate the area where the noise was heard from. As they looked around, one of the staff was convinced she had just witnessed the office chair in the back move without anyone around it. “Did you feel anything back there?” Rachel asked Colin. “No,” he replied. Jay and Sean then resurfaced from the basement. Sean shared with everyone that he heard a deep breath over his shoulder and that he was begin to feel overwhelmed by being down there.
Everyone had now gathered in the main room. Colin decided to give one of the chairs a try and joked how he could get comfortable and take a nap. “If Colin takes a nap on the chair, what will happen?” Rachel jokingly asked. ‘Female’, ‘World’, ‘Restored’ replied the Ovilus. Again, our invisible friend has an amazing sense of humor. We decided to try one last P-SB7 ghost box session for the night. We thought it would be a good idea to try the AM frequency and began. “Are you still in the basement?” Sean asked. No answer from the ghost box, but the Ovilus spoke – ‘Dirt’. “Are you too afraid to come up? Rachel asked. What sounded like child’s voice came out of the ghost box – ‘NO!’ “Can you tell us what your name is?” asked Rachel. No response. “Do you like to play in the basement?” asked Sean. No response. “Do you feel safe down there?” Rachel asked. A male voice can be heard, but it is an unintelligible response is heard. A few more questions were asked, but no responses. The team decided to change the frequency back to FM. “Do you have a message for us?” asked Rachel. No response. “Are you using my body as your portal?” questioned Sean. Again, no response. “Do you want us to leave?” asked Rachel. This time a female voice is heard – ‘A little’. “Do you need us to do anything for you before we leave?” asked Rachel. No response. “This is your last chance to tell us something before we leave,” Rachel stated. A male voice is heard – ‘Thank you’. “Well, you’re very welcome,” replied Rachel. With that, the ghost box session ended. We felt it was a good time to begin tear down and pack away the equipment. Everyone seemed to be happy, including the dead.
