The Screaming Tunnel - Niagara Falls
We got up early and ate a good breakfast, because today we were heading to the Screaming Tunnel in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It is in a secluded area, so if you don’t know where you are going, chances are, you will not find it. Be sure to make your first visit during the day rather than in the dark. Just off the QEW, the “Screaming Tunnel” is a beautiful historical structure, with a tale that takes on many forms.
When we pulled up, Brenda began to sense that something was amiss. As we walked closer to the tunnel Brenda became winded and said, “Oh my god he was so angry, he grits his teeth”. We continued to walk through the tunnel and took in the surroundings. Brenda then began to feel the presence of a little girl. She said that this little girl was about 9 years old, and sensed the child was terrified. The young girl apologized, but Brenda said there was nothing to apologize about as the child didn’t do anything wrong. Brenda said the small girl seemed to want us to follow her as she ran to the other side of the tunnel and back into the woods.
We then decided to follow the girl by walking up the trail that leads into the back wooded area. We continued to the point where the farmhouse supposedly was located before it was burnt down. At this point Brenda recognized that we had a follower. She described our extra as the child, but said she was breathless and in a state of panic. Brenda said the little girl kept looking back up the trail and was terrified that the man was going to get her. Brenda said, “Oh my lord it was her father! He has gone berserk and is going to harm her. He killed his wife and is going to kill her too!” It was at this point Brenda began to run, as if the child was allowing Brenda to experience her very emotions and feelings before she died. Brenda began to pick up the pace as she ran down the path, twice stopping for air as she was out of breath, and then pointed to an area where the child stopped and paused to listen if she was still being followed. Brenda began to sob. She turned her head to look in our direction and said, “Hurry he’s coming, hurry run!” By the time we reached the tunnel Brenda stood looking back at the road in a blank stare. She saw a man coming down the path with a gas can and a lantern in his hands. His suspenders were holding up his dark green work pants that covered his large rubber boots. Aside from being sweaty, this man stunk of alcohol.
No sooner than he appeared, did he disappear, so we eventually turned and headed back into the tunnel. As rumour/stories have it, if you light a wooden match, it will be blown out on its own and you could hear a scream from a little girl who then appears next to you (she is the one blowing out the candle), so we lit a wooden match. You could really smell the odour of sulphur from inside the tunnel, but when we lit the matches it didn’t produce any weird light or visions.
Although we did not hear anything, Brenda said she definitely felt the presence of the young girl. She also sensed that the man from before does walk on the other side of the tunnel, where the road and homes are. A local couple had joined us by this point. They told some great stories, which they both believed in, and said they come down to the tunnel a lot and have experienced the paranormal. The woman was so terrified she would not enter the tunnel. She said she could feel nasty things and couldn’t find it in herself to step inside.
Even though we did not experience much, we did feel a strong impression of a previous incident. We vowed to return to the tunnel on a later date in the evening to finish off the investigation. We would like to the matches again after daylight falls.
There was one part of the tunnel that was much colder than the rest. Let’s see if you can find out where it is…when you visit the Screaming Tunnel for yourself!
