Scugog Shores Museum Village
Scugog Shore Museum Village

The sun was beginning to set as we stood in the parking lot of a small, historic village. The old school house stood in front of us as we waited for our guides for the evening. “Umm, are we here alone?” Brenda asked. “We should be. Our guides haven’t arrived yet,” Rachel answered. “I just seen someone dressed all in black, hurry around the side of the school house,” Brenda told the group. Rachel had seen the black figure too, but didn’t think much of it. It was then that our guides for the evening had arrived, and we began to unpack our gear and wait to be given entry into what would prove to be a very nerve-wracking investigations for some of the team.
Located on Scugog Island, overlooking the quaint town of Port Perry, the Scugog Shore Museum Village is a village set up to depict the town of Scugog from the mid to late 1800’s. The church and school house are original to the land, but the other buildings have been moved to the location, much like Black Creek Pioneer Village. Just like Black Creek Pioneer Village the location also hosts a few ghosts and spirits that seem to think It may still be the 1800’s.
We entered the school house and immediately started setting up the DVR cameras. The school house would also be our base as it was reported that most activity had happened while the building was being occupied. Cameras were set up in the basement and the main room on the upper level. Once we set up, we gathered our other equipment and we began. Before we even left the building, Brenda began to tell us what she was picking up on. “I hear the name ‘Rosina’,” Brenda told the team. Our guide, Nic, was quick to validate. “Rosina Lee of the Lee House,” he told the team. The team began to discuss a couple of things when Brenda interrupted. “Rosina says ‘let’s move it’,” she stated. Sandra, our ‘other’ guide for the evening, began to ask Brenda what Rosina looked like. “Very light features, stern looking, dark hair, light eyebrows. Very feminine features. About five foot three or four,” Brenda described. “What kind of clothing?” Sandra then asked. “Crocheting, fine lace, sheer fabric on the blousing,” Brenda responded. “Any jewelry?” asked Sandra. “Wears a band. A plain band and a cameo around her neck,” said Brenda. With that, we walked down the stairs, out the door and started our walk to our next location.

Originally located in Greenbank, Ontario, The Lee House was moved to its current location at the museum village in 1972. As we walked up to the building, an eerie feeling was felt by all. Nic unlocked the door and we entered the old home. “She has a pudgy nose,” Brenda said out loud. After Brenda had said that, Nic began to feel really cold. “Anyone else feel that?” he asked. It was true, the house felt much colder than it should have. Nic then showed Brenda a photograph of Mrs. Lee. “That’s her. That’s the one I seen in the school house,” said Brenda. “But the pudgy nose one is not her. That is the one that I saw looking out the window at us,” Brenda stated. Brenda then saw a photograph of Mr. Lee. “That’s the guy I seen walking on the property. The one dressed all in black!” exclaimed Brenda. It was then that Jay started to feel something. “I want to drag my left leg,” he said. Sandra was quick to validate. “Yes, there was something about his leg,” she said. “Cigars. I have that cigar taste,” continued Jay. The team continued to walk around the house. We made our way up the steep staircase to the second floor. Being a very old house, the upper floor had a very low ceiling and it made for quite a treacherous climb and descend from the stairs. As the team was discussing how people were short “back in the day” and how the upper floor was uneven, the Ovilus spoke for the first time that evening – ‘Restored’. Restored was correct. The house had been restored to make it look like the late Victorian age. As we made our way back down the stairs and convened in what could be described as the Parlor Room, Jay and Vanessa both described how they felt abdominal pain. Jay also began to list off the ailments he was starting to feel. “My hand hurts. Like a cut or a fracture. I have shoulder pain, my left leg still feels limp, and I have side pain,” he told the group. It was then decided that we would make our way to some of the other buildings on the property before focusing on the Lee House that evening.
Next stop was the Woodwright’s Shop and Barn. As we entered the barn, the Ovilus spoke – ‘Alphabet’. Unsure of what it may be in reference too, Brenda thought it would be funny to sing the alphabet song. As we walked the display barn, Rachel engaged Brenda in converstation. “What do you feel Brenda?” asked Rachel. “A meeting place. Men meeting, discussions,” she said. “People in the area would come. Discussions on banning. Banning people from the church. Getting rid of them,” continued Brenda. The Ovilus spoke again – ‘For’. Unsure of the reference, we continued to look around at the artifacts that were being stored in the barn. Right before we left the building, the Ovilus spoke again – ‘Zoo’.
We visited the Blacksmith shop next. “There is some activity, but you don’t experience it in here,” Brenda stated. It was true. Nic validated that workers and volunteers mostly spend their time in the school house or on the property. It was also revealed to us that the shop is actually still in use as a real blacksmith shop. We then did a quick stop at the Log Cabin. “This is the oldest log cabin there is,” Nic told the team. The Ovilus then spoke – ‘Hug’. The team did a quick walk through of the cabin as Nic talked about the museum. “Each house here has stories,’ he said, in reference to some kind of unexplained activity. Brenda was quick to validate him on that. “Someone was watching from upstairs when we were walking around,” she said. “There is a mean guy here. Grumpy is more the word,” Brenda continued. The team looked around the rooms a bit more, before the Ovilus spit out the next word – “Africa’. “Maybe their slave was from Africa?” questioned Brenda. No one had an answer. It was then that Kathie and Brenda had noticed their camera batteries were completely drained. We decided to head back to the school house to get fresh batteries and then continue on our way. As the team walked back to the school house, Rachel asked Jay how he was feeling. “I have a splitting headache from being upstairs at that log cabin,” he told her. “In the big barn, I feel like someone was crushed,” he continued. Rachel questioned the Ovilus. “I don’t know what ‘Africa’ means, but sure,” she said as they made their way to the door of the school house.
Once everyone had a new set of batteries, we headed off towards the church. As we stopped at Harness and Cobbler Shop along the way, Rachel joked about making sure everyone was out of the building before he locked up. Karen thought it would be a great time to crack a joke too. “How many people do you think are dead here?” she asked. We all looked quizzical at each other. “All of them!” she exclaimed and followed with a laugh. How fitting, as we were also currently standing across from the cemetery as well. Nic began to shut the door of the Harness and Cobbler shop, when Susan let out a yelp. Apparently she was still in the building, looking at the things in the back, when Nic began to lock up. It was a well needed laugh, and with that, we headed towards then church.

The church was built by the earliest settlers of Sugog Island. Like the school house and cemetery, it is original to the land. As we entered the church, Brenda began to pick up on things. “I hear a song, but it’s not familiar,” said Brenda. Nic then told us that the church is also still and active part of the community with it holding event and weddings. “Do things move around in here?” asked Brenda. “Not that I know of,” responded Nic. The team headed into the main part of the church. “This is what the inside of the church at Salem Cemetery looks like,” stated Rachel. As they looked around the pews, Brenda took a seat. “Mommy….” said Brenda. “Mommy, I gotta go to the bathroom,” continued Brenda. Rachel looked at Brenda like she was crazy, and they continued to the front room. Kathie was already in the front room. When the others join, Kathie let them in on something she had thought she had heard. “When I walked through the doors, I head a ‘Hmmm’ she told the team. Brenda then piped up. “This was part of a rectory at some time,” she said. “Whoever was here pace a lot,” she continued. Brenda looked around the room. “I still pick up on the little girl who has to pee,” she said. She scanned the room once more, before looking at the team. “Doesn’t want us in here at the same time,” she told the team. With that, she left the room and headed towards the back of the church. Nic then began to describe how this front room is known as the ‘Weeping Room’. He stated that the casket would be placed in the centre of the room and you would come and pay your respect. The Ovilus then spoke – ‘Dime’. It was then noticed that Brenda was making a hasty retreat back to the group standing in the ‘Weeping Room’. “I see blood from the door to here,” she said. “I see a body back here. He was fresh. I think they did embalming. His casket is right where you are standing,” she stated, pointing to the centre of the room where the team was currently inhabiting. Nic stood there, in shock. Brenda had not been anywhere near him when he was telling the remainder of the team about what the room was used for. “Moving forward,” he said. With that, we followed him out of the ‘Weeping Room’ and headed back towards the door we entered from. Right before we left the building, the Ovilus spoke – ‘Multiple’. Could this be in reference to the multiple funerals that were held at the church over the 155 years it was in existence? It is definitely a question to ponder.
As we exited the church, we stood at the entrance to the cemetery. Nic was telling us all about an experience that he had had in the school house. “There was a big boom in the school house and we could never find the cause,” he told us. Little did we all know, that this seemed to be foreshadowing an even that would happen to all of us, at the school house, later that night. During this time, Brenda decided to once again present tobacco as an offering to the land and the native descendants. When she returned to the group, she began to talk about why she was doing it and how it was a peace offering. The Ovilus spoke – “Saliran’. No one in the group that evening had ever heard of that word before. Karen immediately pulled out her phone so we could “Google” it. We tried for 15 minutes to find the meaning, but could not find much of anything. Could it possibly be a Anishinaabe word, related to the Ojibwa tribe of the Mississauga’s on Scugog Island? We have yet to find out. As we were discussing the possibilities of this word the Ovilus spoke again – ‘Short’. It spoke again short after – ‘Jam’. “Like a food?” Nic asked. “Or a door,” Rachel added. Still questioning this word, the group headed into the cemetery to look around. “Right where I am shining my light there are two men, so just walk around them,” Brenda stated. The Ovilus then spoke again – ‘Graveyard’. How fitting we all thought. We visited the Rodman grave stones, and as we were discussing a few things in the middle of the cemetery. Brenda had thought she heard someone say her name. It was hear that we captured an EVP. Unbeknown to us, the audio recorder had picked up a male voice saying “I died smoking” (Make sure you check out the posted audio! Located at the bottom of the story!) As we made our way through the middle of the cemetery Nic had an experience. “Oh my God!”, Nic exclaimed. “I sensed something run past me. Something small, like a child. I seen the flash go by,” he told the team. Brenda reassured him that it was all good and we then continued on our walk through. “Margaret,” Brenda said out loud. “Not Mar-gret, but Marg-A-Ret,” she was quick to confirm. It was then that the Ovilus once again spoke – ‘Light’. Maybe this was in context to the flash of light Nic saw zoom past him? Kathie and Karen then notice that their K2 meter lighting up in the middle of the cemetery. But as quick as it was to light up, it stopped. They could not recreate anything that may have set off the sensor. We all walked over to the large monument that now had the old headstones cemented in, to save them from crumbling and disappearing forever. The Ovilus was quick to spit out another word – ‘Fifteen’. “Oh my gosh! Let’s look for a fifteen,” Nic exclaimed. Brenda, Rachel and Nic looked for stones with any reference to the number fifteen, but could not find one. “There has to be a Wilson here somewhere,” Brenda said. “There has to be a Jacob somewhere here too,” she continued. The team looked up and down the monument, but could not find either of those name. “Sarah Ann Thompson,” Brenda read out loud. “Kind of creepy for some reason,” she continued. Could this may be in relation to the ‘Sarah’ that Brenda had previously picked up on while visiting Ghost Road, many years before? “A few un-named people are buried here,” Nic was quick to tell us. We met up with the rest of the team on the other side of the monument. Jay was talking about the weird feelings he was receiving. “In the main building, my voice and through felt raspy,” he described to Karen and Kathie as he touched his neck. The Ovilus spoke again – ‘Touch’. Rachel repeated the word out loud so everyone could hear. Right after she did that, an EVP was captured. Someone else had also repeated the word ‘touch’ (Take a listen! - EVP posted at bottom of page!)
We walked to the gate but stopped as Brenda began to tell us what she was seeing. “There is a man in black in the treeline,” she said as she pointed towards the trees on the left side of the property. Nic was once again quick to verify. “A man in a black cloak is seen walking around. It is said that he resides in the basement,” he said. “Yup, in the basement of the school house,” Brenda said. “He is the groundskeeper,” she continued. “But there are also men in the barn. They are talking about taking people out,” Brenda went on to say. Nic then told the team that when they removed the barn from its original location, they had found tunnels underneath it. He also told us that the barn was supposedly from Upper Canada. “Maybe ‘Africa’ is in reference to the underground railroad’” questioned Rachel. It may be a possibility, but rumor has it that the tunnels were used during the Prohibition era. “Men in the village would always discuss business and politics outside the Blacksmith shop,” Nic told the team. The Ovilus then spoke – ‘Lost’. Sandra then spoke about some activity. “Men are heard talking between the Blacksmith shop and the barn, but no one is there,” she told the team. We moved a little closer towards the school house when Brenda stopped again. Before she could say anything, the Ovilus spit out another word – “Spring’. “I can hear carriages, horses – Clydesdales and Quarter horse. Dresses swooshing,” Brenda said. Nic confirmed that the sound of horses have been heard, but not the sound of dresses. “She said ‘We will prove your wrong’,” Brenda blurted out. As we made our way back to the school house. Brenda was concerned as she kept hearing someone calling her name. She also sensed a woman looking through the upper window at us and a man looking through the basement window at us. We rounded the corner and Nic unlocked the door. “You want to go first?” Brenda asked him. “Nope,” Nic quickly replied.

Now that we had walked the property as a team, it was time to split into groups and do sessions in the buildings we we’re interested in. Brenda, Rachel, Vanessa, Kathie, Sandra and Nic decided to go back to the Lee house. Jay, Susan and Karen thought they would stay in the school house and see if anything would happen. Before the team split into two groups, Brenda started to pick up something. “Dreamer,” she said. “Something Dreamer or Dreamer something,” she continued. This seemed it hit a spot with Sandra. “Beautiful Dreamer,” she said. “Beautiful Dreamer is the song my daughter us to play for the children in here,” Sandra explained. Sandra went on to tell the team that when this certain song was played, it seemed that the spirit children would dance about in the main room, as the sounds of footsteps could be heard coming from that area. After Brenda’s group had left the school house, Jay’s group decided to spend some quiet time and see what they could pick up. Before the team had split up, Sandra told us how her daughter, a former volunteer of the museum, would play a certain song on her laptop that would cause a frenzy of activity in the other room. She described it as hearing the sounds of children dancing about. Keeping this in mind, Jay found the song on youtube and played it in the background as they began their EVP session. “Anyone here with us? Make a noise for us,” Susan asked. No response. “We can keep playing the song for you. We know you love this song,” she continued. Again, nothing. Jay then noticed that the two DVR cameras located in the main room of the school house were picking up on motion, but no one was in there. “I feel like I am going to get cold,” Karen said. “I’m uneasy right now,” stated Jay. Right then he noticed something on one of the cameras. “Something just came up from the basement,” Jay stated. “It’s freezing right here. I feel it’s right in front of us,” he continued. Jay, Susan and Karen were now all feeling uneasy and slightly nauseated. “Who’s here with us?” asked Karen. Again, no response. They decided it would be a good time to try a P-SB7 ghost box session. Susan started off with asking the questions. “Is someone here with us? Can you speak to us please?” she asked. No response. Susan continued to ask questions, but nothing was heard. ‘We know there is a man here. Can you tell us your name?” Karen asked. Nothing. “We know you’re here. Just tell us your name,” Jay piped in. More questions were asked, but again, no response. Jay noticed what appeared to be a changed in temperature. As he was asking what the temperature was in the room, a male voice came across the P-SB7 – ‘It was us’. Though no one had heard it at that time. “Are you in the next room?” Karen then asked. A high-pitched voice was heard over the ghost box -‘Hi’ “Hello!” Susan responded. They thought it would be a good time to play the song ‘Beautiful Dreamer’ again. “Can you tell us the name of this song?” asked Susan. No response. Susan continued to ask questions. “How many of you are here with us right now?” Susan questioned. Two voices were heard over the ghost box. A male voice came across – ‘Seven’. A female voice also came through – ‘Six’. The group asked more questions but nothing came through. They ended the ghost box session. It was then noticed that Jay started acting slightly abnormal. He could not stop acting funny or laughing at random things. It was almost as if the spirit of a child was using him as a way to get their fun across. Karen and Susan were a bit worried, so they radioed Brenda and the rest of the team, in hopes they would come back to the school house to help figure things out. However, the walkie talkies appeared to not be working. After 10 minutes of trying, they seemed to kick back in and they were able to get a hold of Kathie and Vanessa. Luckily, the other team had already finished up at the Lee house and were walking around with Nic to help lock up some of the buildings. “This places is ‘effing’ me right up,” Jay said as the rest of the team entered the school house .
Upon arriving at the Lee House, Brenda was quick to acknowledge Mrs. Lee. “Thank you Mrs. Lee for having us in your house tonight. We appreciate it,” she said out loud. It was then also noted that it was much colder in the house than it was outside. It was decided that we would split in to 2 smaller groups. Brenda, Nic and Sandra stayed on the main floor, while Rachel, Vanessa and Kathie headed upstairs. On the main floor Brenda, Nic and Sandra sat in the parlor room. “Mrs. Lee was a very religious woman,” Brenda said. “That’s true. She was married to a Circuit Minister,’ Nic confirmed. Brenda had also picked up that the Lee’s had three prominent children. Nic then said that the Lee’s had 10 children all together and that they would sleep three to a bed on the upper level. It was then that Brenda felt Mrs. Lee run her fingers over her hair. Brenda heard Mrs. Lee say “Oh you poor dear. Whatever happened to all your hair?”. Brenda felt that this was indeed Mrs. Lee, who seemed to feel bad that Brenda had her hair cut off. It was then that Brenda had felt Mrs. Lee sit over top of her as she could see another woman’s hand over her own, as well as a long skirt covering her legs and a flowered long sleeve blouse covering her arms. It was then noted that the room straight ahead of them, that was set up as a master bedroom, was not really one at all. It was described at the ‘Coming and Going’s’ room. Brenda was being told that it was a room of respect and should not be entered. As Brenda sat with Nic and Sandra, Mrs. Lee was giving Brenda information about former volunteers and workers of the museum. Brenda then begin to describe Sandra’s daughter, whose name is also Rosina, to Sandra. Mrs. Lee was giving Brenda this information, which Sandra had confirmed that she was describing her daughter to a ‘Tee’. Brenda has never meet Sandra or her daughter before.
On the upper level, Rachel, Vanessa and Kathie were getting comfortable on the floor. As they say down, the Mel Meter spiked to a 2.8 EMF reading from a solid zero, and went back down a few second later. The Ovilus then spoke shortly after – ‘Return’. “We’ve come back up here. We’ve returned,” Rachel said. They decided it would be a good time to do a P-SB7 ghost box session. Many questions were asked but nothing had come through. “Are you playing with our equipment?” Rachel asked. The ghost box went quiet. Suddenly a deep, male voice came through – 'That was weird’ Shortly after a female voice was heard – “Bankruptcy”. “Did someone go bankrupt? Lose your house? All your money?” questioned Rachel. But no response. More questions were asked, but again, no responses. The ghost box was turned off and the three of them sat there is silence. “You hear with us? Make a noise, bang…” Rachel said, breaking the silence. The Ovilus cut her off – ‘Reverend.” The three of them once again sat in silence. Some more questions were asked, but nothing was captured on audio. It was then that and unexplained noise was heard. It was not picked up on audio, but it resembled the sound of someone shaking a package of mints. That was not the only unexplained noise heard on the upper floor. “Do you hear that humming?” Vanessa asked. “I hear something running,” responded Kathie. “I hear a clock ticking,” stated Rachel. Vanessa agreed. That’s what she was now hearing. Rachel and Vanessa looked around but could not find a single clock that would make a ticking noise. “I know we are asking a lot, but could you do something? Pull Rachel’s hair?” Kathie asked out loud. “Why does everyone say that?” Rachel stated. They had a good laugh and then decided that it was time to head back down to the main floor to regroup with Brenda, Nic and Sandra. As they were getting ready to head back down the staircase, the Ovilus spoke – ‘Past’.
When the group had reconnected on the main floor, the Ovilus spoke again – ‘Count’ “I think she wants us to leave now,” Brenda said. This was in reference to feeling that Mrs. Lee wanted us out of her house. “I’m a little bit freaked out,” Nic told the Rachel. “She (Brenda) told me things she shouldn’t even know,” he continued. Rachel laughed and calmly reassured him that it was just the way Brenda was. We attempted to contact Jay, Susan and Karen, but it appeared that the walkie talkies were not connecting. We decided to walk around the property, while Nic locked up some of the buildings we were not using. Finally, we were able to get a hold of Karen, who immediately asked for Brenda and the group to return to the school house as Jay was acting stranger than normal.
As the remainder of the team re-entered the school house, Karen described to Brenda what was going on. We continued to discuss what we had experienced at our locations. “We picked up on a lot of stuff in the Lee House,” Brenda said. “It was the next level,” Nic exclaimed. This caused the entire team to laugh. “I didn’t lock the door, I just shut it,” Nic said to Jay, Susan and Karen who were the next group to go over to the building. The Ovilus then spoke – ‘Meet’. “Ya, go meet the Lee’s,” Rachel said. As the team talked about the things that were happening around them, Brenda looked over at Nic, who seemed to be beyond himself. “You okay now?” Brenda asked him. “My mind has been blown,” Nic responded. The team continued to discuss things when Nic was compelled to let us know how Mrs. Lee was very particular. “Mrs. Lee doesn’t like people in her house,” he said. “The first summer here, I was locked out. I had the key, but it felt like someone was pushing on the door,” he went on to say. With that statement Jay, Susan and Karen were on their way out of the school house and headed to spend some alone time at the Lee House. As the remaining group stayed in the school house Brenda could not stop staring at a photo on the wall. “The guy in the picture. I keep staring at him,” she said. “Tom Thompson!” Nic excalaimed. “The famous painter. He disappeared up north. They recently found his skull. It showed signs that he was murdered. He was from Claremont,” he continued. “He was apparently having an affair,” Sandra added. Shortly after that, Karen radioed in. “We’re locked out of the Lee House,” she said. Nic wasn’t too surprised, though he knew for a fact that he had just shut the door. In order to lock it, someone has to turn the knob from the inside, or lock it with a key. It is not a self locking door. Unwilling to go alone, Rachel, Vanessa and Kathie joined Nic to assist the other team in gaining entry into the Lee House. Brenda and Sandra stayed behind in the school house to monitor the cameras. As Rachel, Vanessa and Nic got close to the Lee House, Nic mentioned that someone should go around and check to see if the back door was still unlocked. Jay and Karen went around to check. Just as Nic had unlocked and open the front door, Jay and Karen were checking the back door. One of them had jiggled the door handle and the exact time Nic was hesitating. This in turn, caused him to jump off the porch and let out a shriek. Susan followed with a scream. The rest of us standing out there laughed until it hurt. Now that the Lee house was open, Jay, Susan and Karen entered. Rachel and Vanessa then accompanied Nic around to the remaining buildings that he had to lock up. “I don’t like scary movies,” Nic told Rachel and Vanessa. “Well I like the killer ones, but not the paranormal activity ones,” he continued
We entered the Woodwright’s Shop and Barn and decided to do a quick P-SB7 ghost box session. Before we started it was obvious that the squirrels living in the barn were not a fan of us being in there. Once they had settled down, we began. “Is there anybody in here with us tonight?” asked Rachel. Nic then heard a big scratch that went down the side of the barn behind him. “That was not a squirrel!” he yelled as he jumped up and ran towards the door. “I don’t know what that was, but it was bigger than a squirrel!” he continued. “Is that you we just heard? Can you tell us your name?” Rachel asked. No response. Again, many more questions were asked, but nothing came through. We locked up the barn and woodwright shop and head to the next location so that Nic could lock it up. “This is my worst fear,” Nic told Rachel and Vanessa. “What? The unknown?” responded Rachel. “Paranormal activity,” answered Nic. Rachel and Vanessa giggled, but knew that Nic was being serious as he appeared quite nervous.
Upon returning to the school house Rachel, Brenda, Vanessa and Kathie decided to sit in the main room, in the dark, and see what could be picked up. After many questions and asking for whomever was in the room to come close to the REM pod, the Ovilus spoke – ‘Sing’. Could this be a spirit asking us to sing them a song? Perhaps sing ‘Beautiful Dreamer’ to them? We thought we would try a P-SB7 ghost box session to see if we could get some clearer answers. “Tell us what you want us to sing,” Rachel asked. But no response. “Can you tell us what your favourite colour is?” asked Rachel. ‘Red’ was thought to be the response heard. “Margret, are you here with us tonight?” Brenda then asked. No response from the ghost box, but the Ovilus as spit out a word – ‘Dirt’. “What is it about dirt? You like to play in the dirt?” questioned Rachel. No response. More questions were asked, but nothing came through the ghost box. “I’m getting cold. Starting to shiver,” Brenda said. The Ovilus then spoke – ‘Built’. “What was built?” questioned Rachel. “Oh my God,” exclaimed Brenda. “We are sitting above the freaky room!” she continued. “Yup,” responded Rachel. It was now that Rachel decided to do something different. The Ovilus was switched to Q&A Mode. In this mode, someone asks a question. Then, you hit the arrow button on the Ovilus and it will say three different words. Now these words may associate with what you are asking or not make any sense at all. We thought this little experiment would be worth a shot. Rachel started off with the first question. “What did you use to do here?” she asked. The Ovilus gave out ‘Heal’, ‘Express’ and ‘Gray’. “Where should we go next?” Rachel asked. ‘Broken’, ‘Shoot’ and 'Information’ were the words to come out of the Ovilus. “If we go to the church, are we going to experience anything?” Rachel asked. The Ovilus gave out ‘Help’, ‘Come’, ‘Next’. “Is there a lady at the church?” Brenda asked. ‘General’, ‘Seeds’, ‘Enemy’ were the words. “Are you making it cold in here?” Rachel questioned. The Ovilus gave out ‘Town’, ‘Part’, ‘February’. “It feels like February in here it’s so cold,” Brenda stated. “You are in the year 2014,” stated Brenda. “No we don’t have flying cars,” added Rachel. “What do you think of that?’ continued Brenda. ‘Grand’, ‘Paragraph’, ‘Person’ were the three words given by the Ovilus. “Can you tell us about this Island?” Rachel asked. The Ovilus spit out ‘Speed’, ‘Trail’, ‘Bone’. “Creepy! Ghost Road!” exclaimed Brenda. “It’s funny how we can out things together sitting here,” Rachel added. With that, the four in the room decided it was time to re-group and head back to the church for a final visit.
Jay, Susan and Karen’s visit to the Lee house did not have a very warm welcome. After finally gaining entry, Karen was quick to let Mrs. Lee know that they would not be staying long and that they would be leaving the door open. “I have pain in the back of my neck, “ stated Jay. “Like someone pushed be back,” he continued. It was at that point that Jay and Karen heard footsteps coming from upstairs. “Rosina, if you’re here with us can you make a noise?” asked Susan. It was then that she noticed Jay didn’t look right. “Jay, you okay?” Susan inquired. “My left hand hurts,” Jay answered. Now Karen was beginning to feel things. “I have a bad pain. Left side of my neck,” she said. “Yup. That’s what I had,” Jay added. “Feels like fingers digging into the side of my neck,” Karen went on to say. Jay agreed that that was similar to what he had felt when they had walked in. “Now I have a taste in my mouth,” said Jay. “Is it like a metallic taste? Like a blood taste?” Karen asked. Jay agreed. “I have that too,” said Karen. The three of them made their way towards the stairs leading to the upper level. “What the…” Jay said, as he seemed to back away from the door. “Something just came down those stairs. Dead white!” he exclaimed. Susan then noticed Karen, who appeared to be having a hard time. “You okay?” asked Susan. “Ya, I just feel like the wind was knocked out of me,” responded Karen. Jay was noticing strange things. “Every time I try and take a pictures, I see movement. Like it’s trying to get away,” he told Susan and Karen. “Why don’t you want us here? You can’t just lash out,” Karen said out loud, to whomever was causing the discomfort to everyone. “Yes I can. It’s my home,” Jay said, in what sounded like a snarly voice. “Pardon?” Susan said. “Yes I can. It’s MY home,” Jay said again. However this time it sounded angrier. Jay repeated the statement one more time before realizing something wasn’t right. “I just got angry there didn’t I?” he questioned. “Ya, that wasn’t you,” responded Susan. “That wasn’t me,” Jay added. They decided to sit in the parlor room and attempted a P-SB7 ghost box session. This session didn’t bring any answers to the questions asked. But as time went on, the feelings in the house didn’t get any better. “I want to back up in to the corner right now,” Jay told Susan and Karen. “Okay, Mrs. Lee we are going to be quiet now. We are going to go. Can you give us one little knock?” Susan asked. “Are we going upstairs?” questioned Jay. “No, not feeling like we should,” Karen said quickly. Jay, Susan and Karen felt that it was not a good idea to venture to the upper level. “Let’s go. She’s kicking us out,” Karen said as all three of them rushed towards the front door. “Good Bye Mrs. Lee,” Susan exclaimed. The three of them left the house and shut the door. The all heard the door lock right away. As they made their way back to the school house, Jay told them how he was feeling. “Feels like I’ve been whacked, pushed out, “ he said. “That was freaky!” responded Susan. “Feels like my teeth and jaw are achy and loose,” Jay continued. Karen agreed. “I feel the same way. Like I’ve been punched,” she said

Karen agreed. “I feel the same way. Like I’ve been punched,” she said
They arrived back to the school house and was greeted by Nic and Sandra, as the others were sitting in the main room. Jay told Nic how things went over at the Lee house. “Don’t mess with Mrs. Lee,” Nic said. “She didn’t want us in there from the get go. She locked us out,” Jay said. As they were discussing more about their visit, Jay was quick to point out how it felt in the house. “It was like a wall was put up to prevent us from going upstairs,” He said. “Whoever is in that house didn’t like me from the beginning. I felt like I was being pushed out the door,” he went on to say. As they waited for Rachel, Brenda, Vanessa and Kathie to emerge from the main room, Jay was feeling right out of it. “I have never had so much stuff happen to me on an investigation. I’m tired,” he said. Shortly after that statement, the remaining group came out of the room and it was decided that it was time to head to the Church for a final visit. Before we left the school house, Vanessa went back into the main room to grab something she had left behind. Not even 3 seconds after she walked back into the room, a large bang was heard. Thinking we would all hear here go apologize for making a noise, we were shocked to hear her say “what was that?”. Upon reviewing the DVR footage, we noticed a large radio, sitting on desk in the corner (away from where Vanessa had been), shimmy itself off the little shelf it was sitting on and fall over. Thus causing a loud bang. “That has never fallen over before,” Nic exclaimed. “It’s heavy. It couldn’t have done that on its own. This has gone up and far beyond my expectations” he stated. The team then tried to re-create this incident, but to no avail. Our time at the Museum was running out, so we decided that now would be the best time to head back to the church for a final visit.
As we walked back towards the church, Nic seemed flabbergasted. “This is mind-blowing,” he stated. “Just remember The Paranormal Seekers,” Brenda added. “Oh don’t worry, I will,” Nic responded. “This one night is going to last me all year,” he added. As we walked past the cemetery, the Ovilus spoke – ‘Hide’. Shortly after, the K2 meter lit up in the middle of the path, right where Jay had said he thought he felt something. As the team entered the church the Ovilus spoke – ‘Wave’. “Hi!” Brenda responded. It was at that point that Karen and Brenda both thought they heard a voice, but couldn’t distinguish what was said. “That woman is pacing. Her dress is swooshing constantly,” Brenda stated. As the team wanders the building once more Brenda, once again, hears a song being hummed. “What kind of song?” Karen asks Brenda. “A church song,” said Brenda. Brenda begins to hum along to the song she is hearing. “Bringing in the Sheaves!” exclaimed Sandra. At this point Karen and Sandra begin singing this song out loud. “It sounds like you’re saying ‘Bringing in the cheese’”, Rachel said, as she giggled. A few more minute go by. Karen begins to sing another church –inspired song. While singing, Karen begins to pace and circle the pews. Jay notices this and brings it to Brenda’s attention. Being concerned with this new development, Brenda steps in front of Karen and she is making her way down the aisle. “Stop!,” said Brenda. “Take a deep breath,” she continued. Unaware of what was happening, Karen agreed. “Okay,” she said. “Come over here,” Brenda said as she grabbed a hold of Karen’s arm and moved her closer to the back door. “You’re acting like ‘she’ does, pacing. You’re moving the same way she does with her dress,” Brenda told her. Not even a few minutes after that, Brenda turned towards the group and had a slightly panicked look on her face. “I just heard ‘get out’,” she told the team. “It’s getting really cold,” noted Rachel. Brenda didn’t hesitate. She knew what we needed to do. “Everyone out!” Brenda exclaimed. Her voice was serious enough that everyone listened and within seconds, we were standing on the grounds, waiting for Nic to finish locking the door. As we headed back towards the school house, the Ovilus spoke for the final time that evening – ‘Burn’. Was this in response to our hasty exit of the church?
We entered back into the school house and began take our equipment down. All of us noted that this was one place that sure had some interesting elements and energy that seemed to affect each team member. It will definitely be an investigation that the team will not forget.
Is the Scugog Shores Museum Village haunted? We believe so. If you want to take a trip up to the Island to see for yourself, you can do so! But please keep in mind that the Village is closed from Labour Day to Victoria Day (except for special events).
